Welcome

For a long time I have been saying that I should write a blog about our family for our friends who live far away. As more of our friends are moving away I have finally got myself organised to do one!! Who knows how this will go - bear with me as I work this out :) Let the blogging begin.....

37

Today I am 37. To be honest I am not that fussed on turning 37 but what can you do? I have had a lovely day with phone calls from family and friends, lunch with Jenny & Prue and afternoon tea with my boys. We will have Thai for dinner tomorrow night when Bert is home. All in all a good day. It made me reflect today on birthdays past. Here are some memories.... *the birthday I got my pink bike and mum & dad were both so sick with a tummy bug that they got up, gave it to me and went back to bed - Nana looked after us that day *the birthday where we went to Elcaballo Blanco for the day and then came home to the castle cake that mum had made - the cake was fine but the icing was just awful - so, so, so sweet - no fault of mum's the recipe was yuck * every year mum let us choose the cake that we wanted from the Family Circle birthday cake book - I never heard her complain about our choices - ever *When I was in Year 1 and I had a party at home. I invited lots of girls and 2 boys - Hayden and Heath cause they were my friends. Mum made me the clown cake that year. (Not the ugly one - the one that wears the party hat) *I remember the year that Steph and Jen came and spent the day here. Jen gave me a gorgeous purple coat. *Last year I met Liz at the Square and we had a yummy pumpkin and ricotta pastry for breakfast and then had a shop - all with Xavier - it was very nice. *The year that Berty kidnapped me and took me to a secret location which ended up being Bec's house where she had cooked a gorgeous surprise dinner for me with friends. *The year Bert & I turned 30 and we had a joint party with Seth cause he turned 2 - I wore a purple knitted jumper * My 16th that I shared with my Dad - I think it was his 50th?? - or was I 17?? Anyway it was a nice party!! * Many yummy dinners and easy nights with good friends - many of whom now live a long way away * My 21st - what a big party - it was fun - the thought of a big party now makes my stomach churn!! How times change. * Lots of shared birthdays with my Dad who has his birthday the week after mine - I've never really minded that. * The year that Bec got to school early and covered my classroom with huge number 28's (I think it was 28??) - the kids thought it was fabulous and spent most of the day colouring them in - that was the year Bec and I taught Kindy *Mum makes me a lemon meringue pie each year now instead of a cake - I love that pie - I even eat it for breakfast the next day - an annual treat! I am sure that many more will come back to me but they are the ones I can remember right now. Can't complain - I have always had wonderful people in my life who have made birthdays a special day - regardless of the mundane things that needed to happen on it. I am very blessed and although 37 is not a number I love it will grow on me and really - it is what it is!! Bring on another 37 :) Now to go and drink tea and read my book. Happy Birthday to me!

  1. I don't love 37 either 36 is such a nice round number, but 37 seems raw and unfinished. I'm glad you are there to check it out before me fearless friend. I'm glad to have spent many birthdays with you, I do remember your 21st! So many nice cakes and slices!
Hmmm maybe I'm getting your wedding and 21st mixed up...
