Welcome

For a long time I have been saying that I should write a blog about our family for our friends who live far away. As more of our friends are moving away I have finally got myself organised to do one!! Who knows how this will go - bear with me as I work this out :) Let the blogging begin.....

Sock Snowmen

Seth's class have been visiting a nursing home in Camden every couple of months this year. It's been a real growing experience for them and has really warmed my heart to see how Seth has gotten more comfortable and confident (he's an inspiration to me!).
Thursday is their last visit so they are taking a gift to give to each of the patients. They made these cute sock snowmen to take with them and give as gifts. Seth's favourite old dude is Pete - he made his one for Pete.
These are the ones made at school.

These are the ones Xavier and Seth made at home that they can keep for themselves.

Snap Happy Saturday

Took a few photos on Saturday. None of them are terribly thrilling but they tell of a typical Gillies Saturday - with Christmas tree putting up included, that's not typical.

The boys found snails!!

They were pretty happy about them!

Procrastination Friday

The last few months I have affectionately named Friday 'Procrastination Friday'. By Friday I have had it with work, school, housework, lunches, running around, washing etc etc. So on Friday I do my best to do as little as possible. Sometimes I go out with a bunch of mums from school, sometimes just Xavi and I go out, sometimes we visit Liz and sometimes we stay at home and avoid doing any form of housework or cleaning that we can. Today I had a coffee with a friend, talked to Liz on the phone, read my book and watched the cricket. We had pasta bake for tea which is more dinner prep than I usually do on a Friday!!!
Next year for the first 6months I am having a go at teaching a class one day a week - on a Friday! No more Procrastination Friday next year - so I better make the most of it now :)

A busy Monday

Today was busy, busy, busy. Much cleaning of my house happened which as usual was a waste of time because within half an hour it was messy again....anyway that would make boring photos. (Also let it be known that the house hadn't been cleaned for a very loooong time - it was starting to drive me crazy)
Instead here are photos of our crazy 4 year old doing some planting at bookworms, playing Star Wars with me and then he very busily made a campfire with the many sticks at the park.

A free Saturday

Today we had nothing planned so typical me did what I could to fill it up!
We ended up going to the Highlands and spending a wonderful day with the Rivas'. We started at the Red Tree Cafe in Bowral - such a funky place and the food is divine!
Liz and I went for a little wander around Bowral and found a cafe that sells Campos - bonus!
Such a lovely day together - both for the adults and the kids. The boys were so sad to come home.

Creature of habit

Thursday afternoon is Mum and Seth time. We go and have afternoon tea before we get Xavi from preschool. Some weeks we go to the library but one thing remains the same - we always go to Planet Health at Narellan Town Centre and Seth always has a melting moment and a caramel milkshake - every week. There's something to be said for consistency and knowing what you like!

Early risers

So this morning I came back from my walk at 6:50am (let me clarify this is the second walk I have actually done in 6 weeks so it's not anything to brag about) and the boys were finishing breakfast and were on their way to being changed. So basically by 7:15 they were ready for the day! We don't leave til 8:40 - the morning loomed as a long time of many opportunities for mischief, fights and mess. Thankfully the boys are keen to colour Skylanders pictures at the moment so they sat at the table and did that. Ended up being quite a pleasant morning after all :)

This boy

I love Xavi more than you can imagine. He is lively, cheeky, funny, cuddly, cute........naughty, disobedient, frustrating and consistent!!! He makes me readjust my thoughts on parenting and how I do it. I feel with him I mostly get it wrong. I hope and pray he knows how much his Mum loves him and forgives my mistakes.
He is off to school next year - I am facing it with trepidation, I think he'll love it once he's settled in. As infuriating as he is I will miss my little mate.

Coffee and Cake

I had the joy and delight of the lovely Steph all to myself for a couple of hours last Saturday. We had a little wander and a coffee in Camden.
We came back home to Berty who made us breakfast for dinner. After the boys went to bed we watched The Sorcerers Apprentice. It was an easy, fun, pleasant day. We love Steph and are so glad she is part of our family xo

Kindy Photos of old

So Xavi's preschool has asked the parents to bring in photos of them at Kindy. Not sure if I could actually find those photos I had a dig around and ta da found gold!

My photo is my first day of kindy with my long sox and hard school case. The bowl cut is very fetching and sort of matches Berty's - he he
I think I was sort of cute when I was 5 :) Bert's not so keen on his photo - I think the brown and yellow uniform have left some scars.

The jolly red man conversation

Today Seth and I had a chat about the S man. He sort of accidently found some presents and worked out what they would be for. I asked if he thought The S man was real. He said no - when I asked why he said 'Well reindeers can't fly' - plain and simple, easy as that! So who brings the presents mate? 'you!' Not upset, not surprised, just is what it is. I was wondering when and if that conversation would come up this year- it did and it was uneventful!
I remember when I was 8 or 9 and I found some presents under the bed that I shouldn't have. I got to go and have a talk with my Dad over a lemonade, near the tennis court we had next door, about how even though I had worked out that the S man wasn't true I wasn't to wreck it for the girls. I hope I didn't wreck it for anyone! I hope Seth keeps this secret!
Sooooo if I have done this conversation does that mean I can give the other one to Berty - that being the birds and the bees talk. Surely that's only fair?
